Coronavirus: The split

The Coronavirus pandemic is a tough test for all of us. We are faced with problems that we could not imagine until recently. This radicalizes our thinking and our feelings. And suddenly we find ourselves in completely unfamiliar and inappropriate patterns.

In the face of the measures taken against the coronavirus, there seem to be only two decisions left: In favour or against? White or black? Cold calculation or blind rage? Sebastian Kurz or Herbert Kickl?

What can you do as an Austrian if you do not agree with the measures taken by the government under Sebastian Kurz? Do you have to join Herbert Kickl’s group right away?

And what can you do as an Austrian if you take Herbert Kickl’s Freedom Party people as morons? Do you have to show solidarity with Sebastian Kurz’s group right away?

The US faced a similar decision four years ago: Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump? Cold calculation or blind rage? The decision was cruel because in any case it could only be wrong. Did you really have to vote for Donald Trump if you disagreed with Hillary Clinton’s policies?

White or black? Why actually? There are millions of colors in between.

In Austria the pandemic apparently confronts us with the same decision: white or black? Pro or contra? Sebastian Kurz or Herbert Kickl? A calculating head or a raging belly? The heart loses in any case.
