Der Stern von Bethlehem (Audio 02:20 min)
You know, Anton Pavlovich, when I can’t sleep at night, I think of the starry sky. Then I lie in my bed down here and see the starry sky above me. That gives me a feeling of comfort.
Now, in a few days, exactly on December 21st, at the winter solstice of the northern hemisphere on our earth, we will be able to observe an incredibly rare event in the sky. The two largest planets in our solar system, Jupiter and Saturn, will merge right before our eyes. Such a conjunction of these two heavenly bodies only occurs every four hundred years. The last time this “great conjunction” happened in 1623, before that in 1226. And two millennia ago this “great conjunction” happened at the birth of Christ.
You know, Anton Pavlovich, when I lie awake in my bed at night, then I become aware of the dimensions of our cosmos. We are grains of dust in the universe. And yet the universe was created just for us. When I start to feel that, it warms my heart. Then I am happy. And I go back to sleep happily. And maybe I dream of the good Lord and Santa.
Thank you, Anton Pavlovich, for listening to me. I wish you a good night!
